Review of Diary of a One Night Stand by Alexandrea Weis

I just finished reading Diary of a One Night Stand recently.  I was intrigued initially by the title, as most of us tend to decide whether a book is worth reading and even sometimes what it will be about based on the cover and title.  Anything that entered my head did not prepare me for this novel.

Alexandrea Weis weaves a tale of an unhappy, middle-aged woman who has been drifting away from her husband for a while.  She makes the fateful decision to meet another man in a hotel room for a tryst, all the while promising herself that it will only be for one night.  Unfortunately for Kara, this is not to be the case.  She is drawn in by Scott Ellsworth’s moves and charm.  They become embroiled in an affair that enlarges the gulf between Kara and her husband, to the point that she eventually files for divorce after a rather nasty confrontation involving both men.  To make matters more complicated, she is also now Scott’s attorney.

Things rapidly get out of hand in many aspects but the one thing that seems to work for them is their time in the bedroom.  This story tells the tale of a woman who essentially believes that the grass is greener on the other side, but finds out that it is not always the case.  The drama is intense, as not only the adults are involved in the goings on, but Kara’s daughter is involved as well.  This mother, wife, and lover has to make a number of hard decisions, but ultimately discovers the power of true love.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Alexandrea’s book.  There are some rather steamy scenes within the novel, but most of what happens centers around the relationships of the characters.  I feel as if I have gotten to know these characters rather well, and hoped, at the end, that things would all work out for all parties involved.  The legal aspect, in that Kara and her husband are both attorneys, appealed to me as I have been around the legal profession due to familial connections for a while.  All of these different aspects are all rolled into a delicious tale that I found to be a delight to read.  I recommend that any woman that has ever wondered about true happiness in relationship pick up and read Diary of a One Night Stand by Alexandrea Weis, as anyone who is without hope will walk away with a renewed sense that things can, and will, work themselves out in the end.  I guess it just goes to show that you can’t judge a book by its cover, or its title for that matter!
J Happy Reading! J
