Review of Destine by Katherine Polillo

There have literally been hundreds of books written about angels, demons, and the apocalypse, especially recently with the surge in popularity of Paranormal and Young Adult books.  When I first heard that I would be doing a review of Katherine Polillo’s Destine, and got to read a short blurb about it, I figured that this would be yet another typical book about angels and such, but I was so wrong.  I was completely and utterly wrong, and boy am I glad that I was!

We meet Michelle Cross, a typical, “normal,” seventeen year old living in Shady Lane, New Jersey.  She is one of those girls that like to blend in and go unnoticed and she has done a great job of that for her first seventeen years.  She has spent the past five years hiding the fact that her mother is schizophrenic, believing that her mother’s rants were simply those of a mentally impaired woman.

Michelle’s world is turned upside down when she meets the new boy in town (which is a rare event in a town as small as Shady Lane).  He’s handsome, mysterious, and showing her attention that she doesn’t believe she deserves.  Gabriel, the new student, knows more about Michelle and her family than he should, but it isn’t until he drops the bomb that he is an angel that she finds her world is about to completely change.

How do you deal with finding out that your new boyfriend was an angel?  How do you deal with the fact that you are responsible for saving humanity?  Between the Horsemen of the Apocalypse breathing down her neck and the Antichrist making her life a living hell, Michelle is completely overwhelmed.  Did I mention the demons of hell?  Yeah, it goes there and so much farther!

I absolutely fell in love with the characters in this book.  Michelle seems so timid and wary at the beginning, but by the end she has embraced her destiny and shows her warrior strength.  And let’s not forget about Gabriel! Yowza!  They just don’t make guys like him around here, I’ll tell you that much.  The story keeps you on your toes, guessing what could possibly happen next, and you will not see them coming.  Katherine Polillo has captured my curiosity and her characters have captured my heart.  This is one of the best debut novels that I have had the pleasure of reading and I will be anxiously bouncing in my seat until she releases the next book!  **Hint Hint**

So please, head over and buy this book.  I honestly fell in love with every aspect of it and once I finish writing this review I will probably go back and read it again! What can I say?  When you find something as great as this, how can you walk away?

Trailer for Destine

Author Bio: Katherine Polillo originally planned to grow-up and run away with the circus, but after realizing that she had a debilitating fear of heights that squashed her dreams of being a tight ropewalker, she instead pursued a career in education.  She currently teaches high school history and fabricates fictional stories in her free time.  She never really out grew her imaginary friends stage, and instead has created lives and stories for the creations of her imagination to live in.  When she is present in reality and not off on an adventure with her imaginary friends, she lives in a small, New Jersey town with her husband and their two spoiled rotten, ungrateful cats.
