Review of Price of a Bounty, by S.L. Wallace

The blurb that I found on Amazon for S.L. Wallace’s Price of a Bounty (Reliance on Citizens Makes Us Great) does not do this book justice.  I was not expecting to fall into a world of secrets, lies, murder, and chaos, but that is exactly what I found within the pages of this book.  I’m having a hard time writing this review right now because all I want is to start reading the second book in the series!  But I will do my best.

Price of a Bounty (Reliance on Citizens Makes Us Great) begins by throwing the reader directly into Keira’s world as a Freelancer.  Freelancers are hired assassins and Keira is one of the best there is.  Her reputation within Tkaron is one of someone you just don’t mess around with.  She is fierce and lethal, but loyal to her older brother, Scott, and her younger sister, April.  For Keira, her world revolves around maintaining her secret identity and making sure that no one knows who she truly is.  She must do this in order to protect what family she has left.

Keira and her siblings live in a world torn by war, where the Elite have all the wealth and power, while the rest of society is forced to basically sell their souls to survive.  Things such as running water and electricity, that we take for granted, are hard to come by in Tkaron.  Keira became a Freelancer to survive, but when she comes face to face with Richard, a wealthy man with his hand into the family business of finances, her world begins to unravel.  Richard is not who he seems to be and has secrets of his own.  Keira is hired to kill him, but when he forces her to come clean as to who she is her life changes completely.  Will he be the Guy to turn Keira’s world around?

Scott, Keira’s older brother, is a high ranking military man, whose loyalties lie elsewhere.  He is part of the Resistance, a group created to erase the Divide that has taken over Tkaron since the end of the war.  He keeps his own secrets hidden quite well from his two sisters, but they have secrets of their own that they have held close to their hearts.  Will this family be able to make it through the lies and deceptions that they each have woven in order to protect each other?  Will the Resistance be the undoing of all of them?  These are questions that are answered within S.L. Wallace’s Price of a Bounty (Reliance on Citizens Makes Us Great).

This book is set up in a manner that I have not run across in quite a while, which was refreshing to me.  The four main characters all have their time to shine, so to speak, because the book switches through their perspectives.  At first it was hard to adjust to, but once I got accustomed to it I found that I absolutely loved it because we, the readers, are able to get in the heads of all the characters, instead of the main heroine.  S.L. Wallace is an independent author so I was expecting at least one typo, but absolutely not!  Her work is amazing!  I have run across so many that had so many typos that I couldn’t even get through the first page, but this is not one of those.  I was extremely impressed.

If you are looking for a book that is both exciting and captivating, but also tests your morals, this is the book for you.  This is not a book filled with fluff.  It is well written and will appeal to adults as well as the young adult market.  I absolutely loved this book and I’m not ashamed to say that I now have another Rockstar Author to add to my list!  If you’re looking for a book that will leave you panting for more, then you have found it right here!  Don’t blame me when you are up all night trying to find out what happens next with Keira, Richard, Scott, and April!

You can buy her books at:  Amazon / Barnes & Noble

S.L. Wallace is a teacher and life-long writer who is a descendant of the famous William Wallace. Like him, she believes in freedom and independence. Unlike him, she fights her battles with the pen, most recently taking a political stand against recent changes in government at the local and state levels.

The Reliance on Citizens trilogy is her first published series.
