I
just finished reading Blood Debt by
Nancy Straight and was intrigued by this fresh twist on Greek mythology,
especially in relation to the mythical beings, Centaurs. I absolutely loved it, rushing through my day
just so that I could snuggle in and read!
I have a read a lot of books that have featured mythological creatures,
but this was different from anything I had read.
Now
I know what you are thinking, why would I read a book about a bunch of
half-human and half-horse beings, and why would it be interesting at all? Well remember what I said, this is a fresh
twist. These centaurs are different from
anything that I have ever heard before.
The females are powerful with gifts like telepathy just to name one,
while the males are incredibly strong and fast.
But wait it gets better!
We
meet Camille, a young woman who has recently lost the only family she has ever
known, her mother. Upon her mother’s
death she learns who her father is and where he is located. She must decide whether to contact him or not
and finally gives in only to be invited to come and meet him. She travels to South Carolina and things are
not what they seem. Over time she comes
to find out what she is and who she is related to. During the course of her
adventures she comes to make some new friends and a few enemies as well. She also finds the truth about what happened
to her mother and why she never knew about her heritage.
Did
I mention the love story aspect?
Whoops! She meets the handsome,
gentle Drake Nash and is swept away though she tries to resist for very good
reasons. Camille must make decisions
before she fully understands the new world that she has been thrust into. While she does come to find love and family
she never knew existed, she must also face new and frightening circumstances
that have her question what is right and wrong, not to mention real or
imagined. Come along on this splendid
ride of ups and downs as this headstrong Cali girl makes her way through the
dangerous world of new family, new expectations, and ancient history. Which way will she go, well, you will just
have to pick up a copy of Blood Debt
and find out!
My
wish is that you enjoy every second of the journey as I did. I am so anxious to finish this review and
dive back into the book just to make sure that I didn’t miss anything. In this reviewer’s humble opinion, Nancy
Straight has a hit on her hands, and I can’t wait to read the next book!
Happy
Reading!
